So many people have asked me: why I do yoga, or how do I do it? The majority of people I’ve talked to always think that yoga is slow, or that it is not an aerobic form of exercise, or that they won’t lose any weight. The most common reason I’ve heard is that they are not flexible enough to do yoga. I am here to tell you that it is all wrong!! Yoga can help you with all of that!!
Before I started yoga, I was running and doing the elliptical or something similar, and then I lifted weights. I would use the machine and the dumbells and everything to try and look toned. But it got boring!! It got boring doing the same thing over and over again! And so…out of the blue, I decided to try yoga!
It was love at first asana!
After my first class at Lotus House of Yoga, I knew I didn’t want to go back to the gym! Who said yoga doesn’t build muscle?? Um hello…can you do a handstand without any muscles? What about arm balances??! Yoga has taught me to be and stay connected to my body. Every posture, every pose that you are doing, you are literally using every muscle in your body to hold the posture. And so everything you are doing, you are working all of your muscles!!!
The second most common thing I’ve heard is that yoga is too slow. Ha. Have you tried power yoga?! When you do power yoga, you will definitely break a sweat!
I started yoga my third year in pharmacy school, and I’ve loved it ever since. It’s so good for you. For anyone! It’s good for the mind, body and soul. When I get back into yoga after stopping for a while because I’m sick or away, I can tell that there is a difference in my attitude towards everything that is happening in my life. I feel at ease. I feel grounded.
